Introduction

Specialists in Mental Health Advocacy and Recovery

STEER is a voluntary sector organisation that provides a range of community mental health services for adults.

STEER was established in 1998 when a group of mental health service users came together with carers, family members and friends to explore ways of supporting people to recover from mental health difficulties. STEER is an acronym for Support, Training, Education, Employment and Research, some of the essential components of recovery.

From the humble beginnings of working from a member's kitchen table, STEER has grown over the years and now has modem, purpose designed, two-floor, fully disability accessible premises in Derry/Londonderry City Centre. In response to the increasing number of clients who are accessing our services from further afield, we are now providing mental health services in Tyrone, Fermanagh and Antrim with plans to offer services in other areas in the future.
